Urgent Call to Support Standing Rock

Artwork by Jesus Barraza.

We are in a crucial movement moment. The indigenous led movement fighting to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline is under attack. All of us who support liberation struggles, who are horrified and outraged by the election results, who know we must put everything we have into people’s movements, are called upon to support the water protectors at Standing Rock. We are asking everyone in our community to take action.

1. To our folks in Philly: AORTA member Jenna is leaving for Standing Rock on Tuesday in a van that has room for (smallish) donations. If you are able to donate any of the items on this list (being mindful of space restrictions), please contact Jenna ASAP to arrange drop-off tomorrow (Monday) evening between 6-8pm: jenna@aorta.coop.

2. Donate money directly to the camps or buy something from their Amazon wish list.

3. If you have a week or more available and can travel, go to Standing Rock. This is a time when front line support is urgently needed, especially over the holidays.

4. This Tuesday, solidarity actions are happening across the country. Find and attend one near you, or organize an action yourself.

5. Make calls, write letters. Speak up at your church, your school, in your community. Follow Sacred Stone Camp and Red Warrior Camp on Facebook and repost.

6. Educate yourself and others about what’s happening. Here are some useful articles:
