Emily Verburg

Emily is passionate about transformative justice frameworks that help communities create more safety in the face of state and patriarchal violence. She grew up in Michigan and Wisconsin and has lived in DC for five years, where she now facilitates within a growing network of support and resource redistribution for Black trans women and non-binary people who’ve survived abuse. Emily is hopeful about the political possibilities of both creating sustainable webs of abundance and care for marginalized survivors, and for transforming the transactional culture of white queer donor bases in DC.

Emily also facilitates as a volunteer with Collective Action for Safe Spaces (CASS) and Showing Up for Racial Justice DC (SURJ DC). When she’s away from her computer, she loves to dance or meet up for swim at the nearest lake or pool.
