Is AORTA a good fit for my organization?

We may be a good fit for you if…

Racial justice and anti-oppression work is central to your values and vision.

You see yourself in a constellation of movement organizations; when we win, we all win. You orient to others in your sector as partners in the work, not competitors.

You want to build power amongst all workers in your organization, activating their agency and leadership. You are attentive to how formal and informal power operates inside of your organization.

You have a willingness to examine and remake cultures, behaviors, and governance away from the nonprofit industrial complex and towards solidarity economies. We work with organizations who are not seeking a “DEI” effort just to check the “equity box”. You want to trace problems to the root, and your organization is committed to anti-oppression work for the long-haul.

You want to co-design a project arc that may include consulting, coaching, facilitation and attention to emergent topics. We love to work with organizations who are interested in collaborating with us, instead of bringing us into a rigid plan.

Client FAQs

I’ve applied! What happens next?

An AORTA member will reach out to set up an intake call with one week of your inquiry. We review applications on a rolling basis.

How much will it cost to work with you?

You can find our rates on the Rates page.

How long will a project with you last?

It depends on the scope of work that we agree on! Our work with organizations spans a one off workshop to years of consulting.

What if we are working with other consultants?

If you are working with other consultants, tell us right off the bat in your application if you can. This supports us in understanding the landscape of your organization and the different processes and approaches you are working with.

We have an RFP. Could I ask AORTA to respond to it?

Sure! We ask that you fill out our short intake form and share the RFP information with us there.

Can AORTA facilitate for my group in person?

Absolutely! Fill out the application to let us know about your request. We are taking on in-person work with robust COVID-19 safety precautions.

ORGANIZATIONAL LEARNING

Interested in learning more about our trainings and programs designed for movement groups and organizations? Check out our additional offerings below.

A liberated future requires humane workplaces where people have a say in decisions that impact them, power is shared, members can self-govern, and people can resist replicating patterns of domination within the organization.

We have noticed an important and exciting set of transitions, experiments, and shifts connected to shared leadership and democratic practice, across sectors, geographies, and scales. In this workshop, we will root in an emerging vision for democratic workplaces; build awareness of traits that exemplify a democratic worker or manager; offer storytelling for insight and inspiration rooted in our experience and learnings from others; and name some of the challenges and contradictions in sharing power in our groups.

Attacks on trans and queer communities are on the rise; come learn why—and how all of our liberation is at stake. This training will unpack the ways that political violence against trans and queer people is foundational to a right wing strategy that attacks all oppressed communities and makes us all less safe. We will look at how anti-trans animus is inextricable from other systems of oppression, and how fighting back is crucial to all of our movements. Learn how to integrate a critical queer and trans lens into your work; shine a light on some of the often-hidden forces that attack, obstruct, and co-opt our liberation; and better understand the political landscape that impacts all of our lives.

Our Uprooting White Supremacy Training for organizations is a 2-hour online political education opportunity where we unpack the common ways that white supremacy tends to show up inside of social change organizations. AORTA will share specific examples from our work with hundreds of nonprofits, grassroots organizations, academic institutions, worker co-ops, and progressive businesses; highlight common challenges and missteps in policy and practices; and lay the groundwork for ongoing discussion and change work within your organization.
