Why do people turn to AORTA?

We are organizers

who bring valuable cross-issue experience garnered over 10 years of seeing patterns and common mis-steps across organizations whose purpose is rooted in racial, gender, economic, environmental, and disability justice; trans and queer liberation; anti-capitalism and anti-imperialism.

We are facilitators

who bring a spirit of emergence, responsiveness, and play, whether in designing campaign strategy or facilitating a caucus. The political conditions around us are ever changing and require us to be adaptive and creative without sacrificing rigor.

We are strategists

with decades of experience working in and with campaign organizing, local government, nonprofits, worker cooperatives, collectives, and philanthropy. With a sharp power analysis, we build connections between practices across sectors and geographies to weave together the strategies needed across our movements for liberation.

We are a worker-owned cooperative

bringing an emphasis on democratic practice and the dismantling of internal hierarchies. We believe in the importance of developing many leaders, and push for structural shifts in the governance and primary operating principles of movement organizations away from the nonprofit industrial complex and towards solidarity economies.

We are conflict workers

who move towards repair and healing in trauma-informed ways. We believe building resilience is critical for our movements to be successful, and we lovingly push groups towards cultivating strength and alignment in conflict.

We are coaches

bringing a healing-centered and resilience-focused approach to one-on-one work with individuals. We work with all levels of workers, from young leaders to senior members, to integrate and practice democratic principles inside their groups while supporting their resilience, bold growth, and visioning inside of the nonprofit industrial complex.
