Headwaters Apprentices 2021-22

We are so excited to introduce our first cohort of the AORTA Headwaters Facilitation Apprenticeship. These 14 amazing facilitators are rooted in different sectors and geographies, but share a commitment to using their facilitation skills to unlock political possibility! We are thrilled to work with them for the next year.

 
  • Alex Y. Ding

    Alex is a Chicago-based organizer, and facilitates as the co-director of organizing at Dissenters, a new anti-militarist youth movement organization fighting to divest from war and policing, and invest in life-giving institutions.

  • Ana Martina

    Ana Martina facilitates as a founding worker-owner of Colmenar Cooperative Consulting, a member of the Radicante Media Collective, and the US Federation of Worker Cooperative’s Technical Assistance Project Manager, promoting democratic governance and organizational accountability.

  • Anika Fassia

    Anika facilitates as the Co-Founder and Co-Executive Director of We Make the Future (WMTF), combining strategic communications and coalition building to implement race forward narratives that motivate our base and persuade the middle for wins that allow all our communities to thrive.

  • Ciara Williams

    Ciara facilitates as Board Chair for Reconstruction, Inc: a North Philly-based organization working at the intersection of community capacity building and the carceral logic. She is also a CoExecutive Director with the Post-Landfill Action Network (PLAN), an organization focused on supporting student leadership within the Zero Waste movement.

  • Emily Verburg

    Emily facilitates within a growing DC network of support and resource redistribution for Black trans women and non-binary people who’ve survived abuse, transforming the transactional culture of white queer donor bases in DC.

  • Hunter King

    Hunter facilitates as the Lead Communications Organizer at Causa Justa :: Just Cause (CJJC), building and amplifying the leadership of working-class Black and Latinx communities in fights to end speculation and state violence.

  • Jazmín Delgado-Shah Flores

    Jazmín Delgado-Shah facilitates as a political educator for the Center for Political Education (CPE), a resource for left and progressive organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area.

  • Krista Nelson

    Krista facilitates as a steering committee member of Germantown Residents for Economic Alternatives Together (GREAT), galvanizing neighbors to help one another thrive by sharing resources, organizing around issues of housing justice, and strengthening our holistic health and well-being.

  • Leah Muskin-Pierret

    Leah facilitates with the US Campaign for Palestinian Rights, helping Palestine solidarity organizers leverage grassroots power to shift U.S. policy towards support for Palestinian liberation, and also helps nurture community building, cross-movement political education, and mutual aid in DC local abolitionist organizing.

  • Leela Singh

    Leela is the Consulting Manager at Justice Funders, where she facilitates to push foundations past extractive, self-perpetuating strategy and into regenerative, leftist practices centered on ceding control and moving capital to movement organizations.

  • Mike Strode

    Mike is a writer, urban cyclist, facilitator, and solidarity economy organizer with the Kola Nut Collaborative, Chicago’s only time-based service and skills exchange (otherwise known as a timebank) providing an open platform for mutual aid, community organizing, and network weaving.

  • Richa Poudyal

    Richa Poudyal is facilitates as the Policy Director at the Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon (APANO), working to empower and learn alongside APIs in our community to push for policies that bring us into a world that values people and planet over profit.

  • Tynetta Hill-Muhammad

    Tynetta facilitates as the Chapter Organizer of BYP100 Chicago, working within multiple organizing spaces including The #DefundCPD campaign and others across Chicago.

  • Yemi Miller-Tonnet

    Yemi is the Local Campaign Coordinator for Amplify Georgia, where she facilitates a reproductive justice coalition that works to expand abortion access throughout Georgia.
